Mag#126 "The Keeper's Woman"

artwork by Jack Vettriano

"The Keeper's Woman" by Chiccoreal

Attentive prisioner
she awaits the limo's swift retreat
unknown surrender to the other
basks briefly in the dead wintery sun

she presents herself
a gift to him
wrapped up in Chanel on purpose
An impromptu Class Act she thinks he'll like

as not to turn an ankle
she heads downs the steep granite steps
of the stately brownstone
his money secured yesterday

her practiced composure
silhouetted and framed by the window
she will never appear too eager
holding back not one unfelt tear

she lingers vogue-like in the vestibule
fingers playing with his keys
watches as the doorman opens
awaits for the gray Manhattan day
to slowly fade away

Chiccoreal

  10. Thank-you. The idea for this poem came from, in part, the movie "Dear Heart" (last week on TCM) with Geraldine Page and Glenn Ford. The word "vestibule" was used in this film, although we did use this word at home as well a Credenza. Note; most people do not know what exactly is a Credenza. Also I enjoyed the Henry Mancini song of the same name as the title of the movie, and which my Dad often sang in the shower.

  18. Those vertical blinds certainly make the woman appear like an 'attentive prisoner', and you capture her well in a different way...

  22. Very powerfulvJa- Len , tue whore us such a powerful image in our patriarchal " reason at the expense of everything else" , " enlightened" western society . The sun god has broken all reasonable bounds , the whore is a certainty to bring him down and rightly so, thank you for expressing it so elegantly , bring on the dark ages !

  23. @Kutamun; I'm not sure of other women; but I do abhor the term "whore" as it is wholly derogatory to women. The "whore of Babylon" for example is an image which is not a pretty one for persons of the female persuasion. I think the term is vexational at best and I'd prefer to say that the only "whore" are those men and women who are not giving of themelves in the soulful way, but are rather selling themselves to others (or things) as a means for physical livelihood. Yes, "sluts" or "whores" are those men and women who "sell" themselves short, those who do not place the highest value upon the soulful quality of being. And that is ALL of us who live life as a lie, without thought or concern for the integrity of soul. Please realize this? Thank-you very much~ :)

  24. Good on tou Jane, couldnt agree more. Every man or woman who devalues or outright rejects the feminine sets themselves up for an inevitable confrontation with the niw blackened and deformed woman within or without, who becomes powerful beyond measure , and may manifest internally or externally i feel , to restore some sort of balance. Collectively , our little patriarchy has over the centuries created a frighteningly angry female figure, who seems to be stirring of late, she gies by many names . No disrespect intended.

  25. @Kutamun Absolutely no disrespect was taken personally by myself; however, I felt some clarification was required in regards to exactly what you meant in your comment. In fact, I was not at all disrespected, but rather, thought of my sisters of the same sex who may be caught in a trap; the "profession" known as prostitution. Of course this topic does breach upon many other area, and males are by no means immune to the degradation of any form of "prostitution". No other word can rally my ire more than derogatory insinuation as to stereotyping any members of society. And, it is done in so many ways, often subtle, not as blatant as the moniker "Whore" etc. (continued below)

  26. Words have power and these words tend to typecast persons into a role which is not suited for man nor beast. To place all of societal ills on one segment of society is not only ignorant, in my humble opinion, it is criminal.. Prostitution of any kind is not a light-hearted joke of which is so easily dispensed. To diminish the quality of a person by allowing a derogatory term such as "whore" which has conveyed for centuries, a blatant attack on a woman's standing in society, etc. Since the structure that allows for this demeaning behaviour and attitude to thrive is the hallmark of a unjust society, and one in which allows for the lowest possible denominator of banality. Wish that the spirit of persons were more lofty than to place a price upon the head of another human being as is the case with this form of slavery. (continued below)

  27. The individual is thus diminutized to the point of extinction, and in this way the control mechanism of an unjust society are "in place". Yes, this mind-set does tend be a soul-killer. As far as considering the "whole woman", not a "whore woman" may be too much for some stuck in the gutter. And especially in light of your comments regarding the new age mantra of the "sacred feminine", etc. I am not sure exactly what you mean by "the now blackened and deformed woman within or without who becomes powerful beyond measure". Certainly the female soul is intrinsically neither, "blackened" nor "deformed" when allowed to be and appreciated for the life-giving nuturer nature had intended orginally. Have we lost sight of our original nature? Perhaps. Certainly this faulty mentality of sexual segregation sometimes does become a rights issue. It is these shadowy worlds of "good old boy" thinking that can wreck havoc on the entire consciousness of a society. In other words, what we think, we become, and if we are bigots, racists, sexists, etc. that is what we will be, unfortunately. So it is the very nature of women to rally against this deliberately inflicted wound, and to bring to light the mechanisms by which the disparity began. It is of a woman's nature to mend the broken arrows, and to re-establish the rightful ownership of her soul. In particular, women in general, who profess to have this great potential of the awesome power decreed by a just and loving Creator, who is in the image of soul of woman the first sex. (biology has proven that males are females first). (continued below)

    ReplyDelete
  28. So as not to diminish the female within (both men and women carry within female and male qualities). Yes, it is up to all of us to question authority in regards to the quality of life that is our lot in the here and now. What about quality of life? Are we not guaranteed happiness in our Constitutions? Isn't happiness finding one's true, loving self? Not some fascimile of a sterotype? Are we allowing ourselves to use other's methods of quantifying our lives by some benchmark which was considered at one time to be the gold-standard, when in fact it was the manure-standard. In other words, our society must nuture the divine nature of women as qualtiy beings with merit and worthy of self-determination of a bright destiny. (continued below)

  29. Are women who are nuturers (eg mothers, caregivers, etc) given the same consideration as their male counterparts in society? Are nuturers given this respect due as far as monetary commensurate to their worth? And what about the male persuasion? Are males respected for their right to allow the sacred female within to manifest in their lives, to enjoy the full spectrum of the female/male personality within? We must stop the blatant stereotypes that foster a unilateral and stagnant flow within a person and thereby the state. The systematic abuse, be it psychological and/or physical must stop here where the buck has no say whatsoever. (fini)

  30. Wow, you are rightfully angry and passionate, i love how art can stimulate this type of debate . I have recently read "the second sex " , and as a man, it was amazing to observe the resistance n myself to doing sol but having said that , it was one of the best books i have ever read, as she lays bare the myriad entrenched , highly ritualised and systemataised ways in which women are repressed. In Jungian terms, if a man or woman rejects their own innate feminine values, feelimgs etc, " the anima" , she can thus become quote angry and dark, as this energy stagnates , and may even manifest as illness, or confrntations with angry femnine archetypes !. I feel western society has just such a female figure , collectively l one of her forms may be climate change , among many . Untul she is redeemed and restored to her proper place if respect, as in the ancient matrilineal societies l chaos may well reign , and rightfully so. I really enjoyed reading your passionate thoughts on this, Jane . Cheerio , Kuta

  32. @Kutamun; Again, I am not "angry", I am stating fact. If you are an energy shaman, you understand how these "collective forces" can work for the benefit or the the destruction of the earth, as these are the balancing forces of yinyang. Read The Female Enuch by Germain Greer to get a better understanding of women's collective plight. Please do not feel so distanced by the "other sex", as I get that feeling when I discuss with you that you really feel females are "over there", not at all on your pedestal. Of course, there is a fine balance to be reached, always, and it would not do you any harm to saddle up to the plate and consider yourself "one of the girls". Beides, we are on the threshold of a new dream, where the old ways will be no longer, slavery in any form is over, and that goes for the attitude that birthed slavery in the first place. Are we not free agents, able to express our point of view with equimity? It is duly noted that none of these old dreams are working for the benefit of the collective will, As the old adage states; power corrupts absolutely, and in today's world it is all about power, absolute corruptible power. Do you relish in the seething of this bottled up energy's whiplash-like effect? As what comes from the powers of destruction? I enjoy the healthy conversation; it can get us to places where we should have been in the first place; harmonic balance of these disparate energies presently degraded via ad nauseam.

  33. Intuition allows for downloading the understanding in general not
present to our senses. Refer to it as a still voice, a hunch or a gut feeling - right after
it begins happening you will know it's no coincidence.!
Dowsing is a method anyone can use to access the intuition with dowsing pendulum or divining rod.
I have been doing it for a long time and It is my opinion anyone can learn it.
