Mag#125 "This Peace of Land"

1951 by Thomas Hart Benton

We reached the end of the day
Plowing the Chilmark Hay
It was Nineteen Fifty One
The Year I came undone

Setting sights past the horizon
no more lazy daze  soon He'd be risin'
tryin' hard to find this peace on this piece of land
Eternity's waits for no one; not even this man

Turn your weapons into plough shares
paint the world over; cover the tears
All the time we thought would go on forever
We turned around and found too soon was never
